Internet and Communication

There are many pro's and con's to using the internet for communication, some that I am a fan of and some just get on my nerves.

"Honey, will you pick up a few things at the store on your way home tonight?", "Text me the list" he yells over his shoulder as he walks out the door.  I can see why this could be a valuable asset rather than writing out a list on a piece of paper that may get lost in the day to day shuffle of work papers or even sucked out the window as you are traveling down the highway trying to feel the breeze on your face for once not having the a/c or heat on in your vehicle.

The internet has allowed us to search for a find lost friends and relatives from our past who for one reason or another we have lost touch with.  It is also much faster to send an email than to send a letter all you have to do is click send and you can pretty much guarantee that email is in the receivers inbox instantly.  The vast amounts of information that is readily available on the web is endless.  I myself can hop onto the internet looking for a recipe for teriyaki beef and end up on pinterest an hour later trying to figure out which paint color would look better in my bedroom.  Ugh!  It sucks you in and doesn't let you go.  Technology is allowing us to multi task more now than ever before but is this always a good thing?

There are also many adverse effects of the internet, such as cyber bulling, stalking, identity theft to name a few.  It is way to easy for a child molester to find his prey on the internet and easily talk his way into the home (via the computer) of an innocent child thinking they are chatting with someone their own age not a convicted felon.  I realize that everyone on the internet is not a convicted felon looking for prey but there are many.  Desensitization is a definite set back of the internet and communication.  Have you ever forwarded a joke you thought was hilarious only to receive a "how could you" comment back from someone on your forward list?  Misunderstandings, no face to face communication, less personalization are all part of the downside of the internet and communication.

I understand that it makes every thing quicker but as I have said before is quicker always better?
